Flax seeds carry one of the biggest nutrient payloads on the planet, proving that when it comes to healthy foods, good things often come in small packages. Flax seeds contain 59% alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), an essential omega-3 fatty acid that is critical to overall wellness and health. They are also very low in carbohydrates, making them ideal for people who limit their starch and sugar intake. Flax seeds are very versatile and can easily be added to your daily diet. Ground flax seeds are easier to digest, so grind them as needed and aim to include 1 tablespoon of flax seeds in your diet per day. Like other sources of fibre, flax seeds should be consumed with plenty of water or other fluids. They are great in oats, cereals, yoghurts, smoothies, breads, casseroles, soups and salads.
HOW TO USE FLAX SEEDS:
• To maximise the nutritional benefits of flax seeds, add 1 cup of seeds to a blender, food processor, or coffee grinder and grind until they reach your desired consistency.
• Store the ground flax seeds in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 1 week.
