When it comes to nutritional value and culinary versatility, almonds are hard to beat. They're crammed full of essential nutrients, antioxidants, fatty acids, fibre and protein, making them the perfect healthy snack. Although there are many varieties of almonds, the nonpareil variety is our favourite because of its sweet, buttery flavour. These great-tasting unpasteurised almonds are sourced from a local, family-owned farm in the Western Cape, so it doesn’t get much fresher than this!
WHY UNPASTEURISED?
Most of the world's almonds are produced in the USA where, by law, they must be pasteurised, regardless of whether they are conventionally or organically grown. This is usually done by either ionization, propylene oxide (PPO) fumigation, irradiation or steaming. We believe that these processes potentially compromise the nutritional value and flavour of the nuts, which is why we only stock these locally grown, unpasteurized, truly raw almonds.
