Sesame seeds are renowned for their distinctive nutty flavour and are a common ingredient in various cuisines. Despite their tiny size, these highly nutritious little seeds are packed with protein and fibre, as well as essential minerals and antioxidants. They are rich in the amino acids tryptophan and methionine and are an excellent source of manganese, copper, calcium and iron. They are delicious raw or toasted and can easily be added to salads, vegetables, crackers, breads, candies, pastries, stir-fries and noodle dishes. They are also the main ingredient in halvah and can be used to make tahini, a sesame paste that is a traditional ingredient in hummus.
